Hey my lovelies!
I am excited to announce that I am officially back into it after a surprisingly long hiatus (more on that later). For now, guess what?
WRITING CAMP IS BACK!
Up until recently, I haven’t been in the greatest headspace for writing. Call it discouragement, call it writer’s block, call it whatever you will- I would look at the words I had typed up…and I would hate every one of them. Now, I love reading and I love writing. So let me tell you, when I had those negative emotions towards my own work, I knew something was not right.
I tried to force myself to write any way. Let’s just say that the last camp was the actual worst (for me). I saw the girls, always so happy and motivated. I had several try and encourage me to write, and nothing worked. Every time I went to my laptop and opened Scrivener, I would grow increasingly frustrated. Frustrated at my work, at myself, at others. I closed my laptop halfway through the second week of camp and made a big decision.
I was done with writing.
Now, I know what some of you may be thinking. ‘Surely it can’t be that bad. It’s just a rough day, you’ll come back.’ or ‘ That’s a little extreme, are you sure you thought it through?’ or even ‘ Poor thing, its ok- don’t feel bad about it’. These are things that were said to me when I first broke it off, and I’m sure there were others. But yes, it was extreme. I didn’t pick up a book to read, a tablet to write, or opened a note on my phone to add statements of inspiration for several months. I refused to let myself feel bad about it either.
I needed a full break to refocus and get my mind back on track. Sure, forcing their way through it might be the best way someone else can get back on track but it wasn’t for me. It was making me hate writing, something I have the utmost passion about.
So I took a break. I stepped away. Now I am back and I am determined. I have three big goals for this camp. They may not get finished, but my biggest goal is to write and to have fun with it. Because I did not like the version of me I was at the last camp. And I am determined to never go back to that.
Behold…my writers camp goals:
Goal number one…….. I have officially opened my blog for the first time in a year or so. I intend on writing several posts- specifically blog posts about P.D’s books, maybe a few about how life has been, as well as a few from scripture reading. I’ll post a few during this month and then reserve a few for later. I have missed you guys and I want to get back into consistently writing.
Goal number two…….Several messages have been about the armor of God at church recently, so I think it might be time for me to start working on “Serpents and Stardust” again. Life has gotten a lot better, so I am not having nearly as rough of a time looking at the pages for it. It may still be challenging for me as there are a lot of emotions wrapped up into it, but my goal is to at least write a few pages.
Goal number three is quite possibly the biggest goal yet…. Getting “No Quarter” up and ready for publishing. I want it to be published by the end of the year. Im looking for Alpha testers who can give constructive criticism so that I can make it better. I already have some direction for it, but I could use more eyes!
Let me know what y’all think! If you want to join the writers camp, the link to our groups blog and the link to the sign up doc are down below. Join us and say “Adara sent you”. So much love, and I look forward to writing for you guys more!
