Labor vs Rest-Matthew 11:28

Matthew 11:28 “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

If there is any word I can think of to describe first time mamas, moms, or just women in general, it’s overwhelmed.  If you’re a working mom, you have everything on your mind from meetings to time commits to job duties. Maybe Mike broke the copier again as you were fixing to print off a stack of time sensitive paperwork. Maybe Dave called you into the office again to discuss some issues with your customer service. And if Brenda comes to you with one more complaint, you might just lose it!

Then you get home and you have the demands of the household: dinner, laundry, vacuuming, children. It doesn’t matter how many you have. I only have one child, and there are days where I am so overwhelmed, or where she needs me so much, that it seems like I never actually leave the room!

Mamas, I think it is safe to say that we “labor” a great deal. I think it’s also safe to say that we are burdened and “heavy laden”.  We are busy beyond compare, and with everyone needing at least a little something from us, we are seemingly always tired.

Well, Christ reaches out to us and tells us he has what we need.Rest.

Just that word itself seems like a fantasy, especially to first time or brand new mamas (those feeds every 2-3 hours are/can be exhausting).

Maybe you’re sitting there and wondering to yourself, “Rest? How do you expect me to rest? I have so much to get done. There really is a reason people say mamas have 8 arms.” The rest Jesus is speaking of isn’t necessarily physical. It’s spiritual. It’s emotional. There’s almost nothing more comforting than realizing that someone else is in control. You have so many decisions and things you have to do, you can’t even imagine someone else leading the direction. But Christ steps in and gives you a calm, a peace that you can’t understand and whispers to you “Rest in me. I’ve got this handled”

Mamas, in our busy and overwhelming and burdened day to day life, let’s strive to recognize that the God who created the universe cares. He loves you. And he wants to give you rest. You don’t have to do everything. You can rest in him.

Have you ever had a busy/crazy day? How do you find time to rest? What do you do to make sure you take care of yourself? Id love to hear from you! Comment below or message me independently!
